Voters in Weare place a resounding "No" on Article 5

Weare - 10 March 2010 - For many months, enthusiasm among residents in Weare kept growing in opposition to the proposed Asphalt Batch Plant.  On Tuesday March 10th, registered voters made it known that Article #5 which came forward by petition had no place in the Town Zoning Ordinance. Proponent's of the amendment were unable to convince the Zoning Board or the Planning Board that an amendment to Article 24 to add that; The installation and operation of an Asphalt Batch plant shall be ...READ THE FULL ARTICLE...

ELECTION RESULTS FOR Weare - New Boston - Dunbarton

A message from Steve Pascucci I have decided to join the Economic Development Committee.  Maybe my talents can best be used there, (if they'll have me). They deal with businesses in the entire Goffstown area.    Trying to help create more for the Town.  We'll see what they decide. After my run for Selectman, I feel I want to do something to involve myself more in the town.   We did get 12% of the votes last night.

Deducting Commuting Expenses for a 2nd Job

By Jim Roberge, CPA

5 March 2010 - With many facing tough times the past couple of years, a lot of people have found themselves needing to take on a 2nd job due to pay cuts at their main job, or maybe start working two jobs to make up for one they lost.  When hard times like this hit someone any little break might go a long way.  That is what gave me the idea of looking into what commuting expenses are deductible.  Normally the costs associated withdriving from your home to your place of employment are not deductible.  However, there are situations where you can take a deduction for commuting expenses.

The Story of a Dunbarton Woodland Fairy

Dunbarton 9 March 2010 - (Courtesy of Don Larson, Dunbarton Garden Club) here is a very tiny woodland fairy that lives in Dunbarton, NH. Her name is “Wander”. She is a happy fairy who spends a lot of tim playing hide and seek. She has a very, very silly laugh and enjoys watching children play. She sometimes can be found hiding under a beautiful flower or behind a round rock. She loves to blend in with nature and that is why she usually cannot be found….. “Wander” was created by Dunbarton Scholarship winner Lindsey Herlihy. Lindsey resides in Dunbarton and goes to college in Vermont. Lindsey created and designed “Wander” for the Dunbarton Garden Club’s Old Home Day Raffle 2009.Wander’s Woodland fairy House was designed and constructed for “Wander” by longtime member and former treasurer of the Dunbarton Garden Club, Nancy Rizza. Lots of love and care went into its design. The Woodland Fairy House was won by Jana Stich, a second grader at Dunbarton Elementary School. New Boston Public Hearing on Chief Krajenka opened the door to just under 230 people.

New Boston - 1 March 2010 11:10pm - Monday evening's special meeting with two members of the Selectboard presiding started right on time.  At 7pm, Chairman Woodbury asked all to rise for the pledge of allegiance to the Flag and shortly after set the tone for the meeting.  Anyone may come forward who has a statement either for or against Chief Krajenka and a recognized time of 3 minutes will be provided he said.  The entire meeting was devoted to the public for expressing an opinion on the matter ofC Chief Krajenka's performance on the job.  One would have to conclude on their own as to which way the majority of the crowd was leaning.  There were those who came forward with a middle of the road opinion, others praised the Chief's work and others spoke out against the Chief in a manner which bordered on derogatory at times. At about 45 minutes into the 2 hour session, Mr. Gerard Beloin came forward.  Beloin carried a laptop and some ...READ THE FULL STORY....  Although GoffstownToday.com recorded the entire meeting a short portion of it is shown below.

Is it too soon to talk about Giant Pumpkins?  Not so, according to Jim

Goffstown - 1 March 2010 - The Goffstown Community Garden Club Monthly Meeting is this Thursday at 6:30pm.  Jim Beauchemin, Goffstown's own Pumpkin organizer and moderator is going to let out a few secrets.  Jim is also involved for many years with the N.H. Giant Pumpkin Growers Association and has perhaps one of the best well known secrets for growing large, or let's say huge, or let's say ginormous gourds pleasing to tipping the scales.  The meeting is held at the Mountain  View Middle School in the Home Economics room on the 1st floor.  Anyone with an interest may attend.  This writer is curious as to whether Jim will have some of those secret seeds with him for those who attend and do pumpkins really like beer?

A message from the GCGC Chair:  GCGC Meeting Chairman is Patricia Sullivan; Greeter is Kim Ricard; Hospitality Committee are Liz Petersen, Ann Domainque and Barbara Doody.  The public is cordially invited and encouraged to attend.  Please call GCGC President Jackie Lutkevich at 497-8591 for more information about this presentation or your interest in the Goffstown Community Garden Club.

New Boston home destroyed by fire, owners make it to safety

New Boston27 February 2010 – On Friday evening, the Hansen’s hurried to a neighbor’s home to report that their home at 31 Briar Hill Rd. was engulfed in flames.  The New Boston Fire Department responded and requested assistance from neighboring communities.  While Goffstown covered the station in the Village, Mont Vernon responded to the scene to help with battling the blaze.  Just after 9pm Friday evening, fire fighters began their effort to save what they could, however the fire spread quickly.  A pumper truck was called into use in the village to fill tankers responding to the fire.  A water holding pool was set up to contain additional water for use on the fire.  Weather conditions were difficult as well as road conditions.  Residents on Briar Hill Rd. were without power for approximately 20 hours from the wind and snow storm on Thursday.  Owners James and Patricia Hansen made it out of the home without injury; however they did lose their cat to the fire.  The home is a total loss and although the tax card indicates the use of Wood and/or Coal to heat the structure, fire fighters on the scene on Saturday morning could not pinpoint the actual cause of the fire without further investigation.  The Hansen’s were avid Armature Radio operators and images show the tower down as well.  The Hansen’s were not available for comment at the time of this story.  As additional information becomes available, we will follow up with a report as to whether the Hansen’s need for assistance to help them get through this very difficult time.
